Cooler Weather means Lots of Fun

When I lived in Ohio the first cool day meant the end of Summer and the beginning of a long cold winter. Where I live now in Florida, the first cool day means the end of the summer hibernation and time to get outside and enjoy the weather!! We let the tourists enjoy the hot humid summer and wait until the weather dips to the mid 80's. Today was the perfect day. Crisp 70 degree air greeted me and my brood as we started our day. We went to Sawgrass Lake Park and enjoyed the alligators and other wild life. We cleaned out the chicken coop, the backyard and a few of my container gardens. I let my niece be the "photographer of the day" a coveted position. She did well until she discovered the  "record" option and started taking videos of everything including my not so flattering side as I bent over to clean the chicken coop. Those videos will not be featured here today, but the amazing photos she captured (I took a few too) will be featured. Added bonus? The whole day was FREE!!! Gotta love that! Please enjoy and tell me how you enjoyed your weekend at your homestead!!

A Day in the Life

                                   Florida Aquarium - Tampa

So our Saturday started out with mommy not getting much sleep the night before. I finally got the baby to sleep about 7am when Savannah woke up. I sent her out to her daddy thinking I could catch another hour of sleep, but between her crying for me and then the baby wanting to eat....I figured it just wasn't meant to be and I got up.

I gathered the troops and got everyone dressed, me showered and we headed out the door to the Florida Aquarium in Tampa. I bought us a family pass last year for Savannah's birthday, so I wanted to get one last use out of it.

I must say the Florida Aquarium is the nicest aquarium I've ever been too (and we have visited quiet a few!). They really have it set up nicely for toddlers and even older babies. Savannah has been able to enjoy it since the time she was 9 months old. It is also small enough that it doesn't take all day. You can do the whole thing in either one morning (i.e. before nap) or one afternoon (i.e. after nap).

They also have a large out door play area. During the summer months, they turn the water on and it is an excellent water play area. It was nice because Savannah played with her daddy while I nursed Atlanta.

Savannah was asleep before we even left the parking lot. Like many other children, she decided that the 45 minute ride home was her nap for the day. So needless to say the rest of our day was spent dealing with a whiny almost 2 year old! I will not bore you with those details!!! However, if you are ever in the Tampa Bay area, the Florida Aquarium is an amazing place to spend time!

A Day in the Life Part 2 - Dirty Laundry and Boo Boos

9:00 am - Woke up with Savannah, funny thing is she always cries if she wakes up with me, but if she wakes up alone and walks out of the room to find me she's fine??? Weird!! Anyway, Daddy was still awake so she snuggled with him on the couch while eating a banana and watching Sesame Street. I checked my Facebook and updated my blog...so pathetic!!!!

9:45 am - Got my homemade apple crisp in the oven and made Savannah and I a toasted English Muffin and some chopped apple.

10:00 am - Daddy wants to go to bed and there is a mountain of laundry to be done! So we pull out the laundry into the hall so Daddy can sleep. Savannah helps with the clothes baskets and she "helps" keep all the clothes "IN" the basket.

10:30 am - First load of laundry in the wash, apple crisp out of the oven. It is no TV time, so Savannah and I eat our apples and read a book. I give in to myself and turn Bay News 9 on...they have the weather every 9 minutes. I see that AGAIN it is suppose to feel like 110 degrees outside. That's hot even to a Floridian!!!

10:45 am - Grandma calls from Ohio, Savannah talked on the phone to her, so cute!! She even said hello to her 95 year old Great Great Grandma!!! We had sent Great Great Grandma a flag Savannah made at school. Grandma said she really liked it.

Savannah with Great Great Grandma (this is an older photo!)

11:00 am - Getting ready to brave the heat. Savannah was dressed and ready to go and was playing on her Dora Van when there was a Dora Van accident. I don't know how she did it, but she flipped off the Dora Van and hit her forehead. I pick her up, no bleeding, just a very red eyebrow.

11:15 am - We enter the VERY hot outdoors, she is so excited!!! She takes off to our neighbors house, we could hear them outside. She bangs on the gate and my neighbor Tina (who watches her every Monday) lets her in. She is SO happy, she runs to her friend Jasmine who is 4 years old and trips over a stick skinning her knee. It is not Savannah's day today!!! She sobs into my chest, and then wants Tina to hold her too. Tina gets out her umbrella stroller and lets us borrow it to walk to the lake (originally I was going to let Savannah walk the whole four blocks). They are getting ready to leave, so they can't come to the lake with us. So I get Savannah into the stroller and off we go!!!

11:30 am - It is hotter than blue blazes!!! I ask myself what we are doing out here, Savannah's knee is bleeding and covered in dirt and she is whining by the time we walk the 4 blocks. I get her out of the stroller to see it gave her a rash all over the back of her legs. GREAT!!!! But she sees the ducks and is SO happy!! She starts running in the grass towards the ducks and birds. They follow her everywhere hoping we brought something to eat. We did not...but they still follow her. She is laughing and having a great time, and the Lord blessed us with a few cool breezes under a shade tree. By this time I am glad I made the trek down here.

12:00 pm - The ducks and birds realize we have no food for them so they move on across the lake. I get Savannah back in the stroller and we head home. The walk home was like walking through a ghost town. This time of year in Florida, no one goes out of there house unless they are headed to the beach, and even then the beach is filled with mostly tourists. Floridians wait until the cooler winter months to venture out. But when you have a toddler, you can't stay locked up inside the house all day!!!

12:15 pm - We get in the house and quickly get some ice water for both of us. She chants "shrink shrink shrink" so excited for something to cool her down!! I get some cool bath water running so I can clean her knee. I see she is covered from head to toe in a heat rash...so I hope the bath will help with that too.

12:30 pm - After I get her dried off and ready for nap, she asks to read a book. So I give her a snack and a "shrink" and we sit down and read books. She is rubbing her eyes, so it is nap time.

1:00 pm - Lay down with Savannah and she falls to sleep quickly. I enjoy about an hour nap myself before getting up to write this blog post while she sleeps!!!

4:00 pm - Yes, she slept that long!! I guess our walk paid off!!!! This is where I will say goodbye until next time!!! Hope someone will enjoy our day full of boo boos, rashes and dirty laundry!!!

A Day in the Life of Savannah and Georgia - Part One

The inspiration to write this comes from my mother who loves to keep lists!!! Me, being a not so detail oriented person, have a hard time keeping lists, and if I do have a list I lose the list!!! She showed me my "baby book" where she wrote down everything I did for an entire day when I was about one years old, and I figured perhaps I would do something similar...except with a bit more flare and flavor. So, here I go!!! Click here to read my introduction, it will give you a little insight into our lives and might make this a bit easier to understand.

8:30am - Savannah and I woke up just as Daddy was getting into bed. We snuggled and cuddled for about 15 minutes and then decided to get up!! In true Savannah fashion, she immediately wanted something to eat and drink. She walked around saying "shink...shink" until I got her some fresh water for her sippy cup (we do not do juice in our house) and then I put a waffle in the toaster.

9:00am - Breakfast (being the bad mom that I am) consisted of us watching Sesame Street which comes on every day at 9am and eating bananas and frozen waffles. Savannah found a bag of dried fruit which had never made its way back into the kitchen and figured out how to open the bag while I was in the bathroom. She proceeded to dump out the entire contents on the coffee table and fed the fruit to herself and the dog who has had doggie diarrhea for the past day....I am sure dried fruit will not help in that area. I cleaned up the mess of dried fruit, and quickly ran off to take a shower while Elmo was on entertaining my daughter. It is amazing how quickly you can shower once you have kids!

10:00am - Turned off the TV and set Savannah up with 2 crayons and a pen in her highchair. Taped a very large piece of paper to the table (I pushed her high chair up to our dining room table) and let her color. I meanwhile checked my facebook, my blog and texted my sister-in-law who is also expecting. This will be her first baby, and has endless questions for me regarding pregnancy, parenting etc. I try to help, but God only gave me so much patients and she has been using up a lot of them lately!!

10:30am - Done with coloring, wants down and now decided to chase after the dog and cat. Our poor dog is getting older, but tolerates her so well. I decided to be nice and let him in our bedroom to sleep with Daddy. Savannah wasn't to happy about that and shouted her baby gibberish at our bedroom door. I am very thankful that Daddy can sleep through anything!! He never woke up through any of this!!!

11:00am - Decided it was time to fold the clean laudry that has been sitting in my garage for a week. So pathetic, I know, and i am hoping someone who is reading this is does the same thing!! I put the laundry basket on the couch, turn on Boston Med (which has been waiting for me to watch since Thursday in the DVR). Savannah LOVES helping with the laundry. I give her one piece of clothing and let her help. Everytime she reaches for another piece of clothing that has either been folded, or is sitting in the basket waiting to be folded, I tell her "NO". She knows what "NO" means, but is a very strong willed child, and will look me directly in the eye with one hand on the clothes daring me to do something. I had this battle with her the entire time I tried folding the clothes (which is why they sat in the garage for a week!) until she found a pair of my clean underware. Now, I can't believe I am about to share this with the world, but I doubt this will be read by many! She took my underware (clean underware) and was very entertained for a good 15 minutes dancing around the house with it on her head! I ran with it and quickly finished folding all the clothes. She then "assisted" me in putting everything away. I would let her carry one item to each room so she felt like she was a part of the project. Some how we even put all of Mommy's and Daddy's clothes away in my room with out waking him up.

12:00pm - Oatmeal time!!! Savannah loves her oatmeal, so we did a quick lunch of High Fiber instant Oatmeal. She quickly cobbled it up and said "more more" so I cut up a hot-dog and microwaved it for 30 seconds. This being one of her all time favorites, gobbled it down. I took her out of her seat and she had a BM and then while rubbing her eyes said "book...book". She went and got me three books and we read them all. She loves the Usborne books because they are interactive. Each page either has a lift the flap and/or touchy feely characters. She likes to take my hand and make me touch everything. To cute!!!

1:00pm - Off to nap!! Crawled in bed with Daddy (yes, we co-sleep...I will be awaiting the hate mail eagerly..and no, we don't know what we are going to do when baby number two arrives so please don't ask) and snuggled up. She cried for about 10 minutes and then fell into a peaceful slumber.

1:30pm - Made myself lunch, checked my Facebook (ok so I am a Facebook addict) and am now sitting her typing all of this!!!

This I fear is LONG enough...perhaps next time I will do an after nap time edition.  My hope is that some other mom will read this and totally relate and feel glad that they aren't the only ones who lead a crazy, boring life.

Introduction

I thought I should write this first, so if you are reading any of the Day in the Life of series, and got a bit lost, this would help!!! So, let me tell you a little about my life!!! I am a registered nurse and I work in a busy pediatrics office 2 days a week. My husband is a police officer who works the night shift, so he sleeps all day and keeps a rather unorthodox schedule. I have a dog and two cats which Savannah looks at as her friends (siblings?). We live in a very modest 2 bedroom one bath house in Florida with what seems to be NO storage space. I am 4 days away from being 6 months pregnant with a baby boy. So, there you have it!! My life in a paragraph!! I hope you enjoy my "series", who knows if anyone will even read it, but my hope is that someone will read it and feel happy to know they aren't the only ones leading a crazy, boring, life. ENJOY!
